One after the other, a cheeky monk, a fat monk and a thin monk go to the temple of an old master, who takes them on as his students. However, it takes a severe fire to force the students to take responsibility for one another and work together - not against each other. This production is based on an ancient Chinese proverb: One monk can carry two buckets of water, two monks will share the load and carry one bucket, but add a third and none of them will fetch water at all. Working off of this classic story, Chinas National Theatre for Children in Beijing developed a production that masterfully combines traditional Chinese theatre elements with modern movement-based theatre and gets by without any language whatsoever.
